Balloon Ride!
One option during our visit to the Serengeti was a morning balloon ride over the plain…
“We can’t go too low over the hippo pool”, said our pilot Joao. “If I do, the basket will stink for a week.” A collection of hippopotami should be called a “stench of hippos”.
Here you can see a hippo trail – it looks almost like a road, since the hippos’ feet are wide, flat and far apart. Hippos wander a long distance during the night when they won’t get sunburned… Crossing the wide hippo trail is a narrow migration trail made by zebra and wildebeest who typically travel in single file.
After the flight, we had breakfast on the open plain…
…a champagne breakfast, as is the tradition in ballooning.
