Arusha National Park
Just an hour or less from Dashir Lodge the very under-rated Arusha National Park; while much smaller than the main parks in Tanzania, it too has a wide variety of the same wildlife. Here is just a sample…

Count the giraffes including the ones in the bush – you should find 8 of them!
During our day trip to Arusha National Park we took a short hike to one of the waterfalls. On the way we passed this herd of giraffes grazing in a meadow…

One of many waterfalls on Mt. Meru; the tall peak attracts clouds and there is always rain run-off.

Interesting root structures feeding on the wet environment near the waterfall spray.

Some bones gathered from the park by the rangers. That’s what a giraffe skull looks like.
We were a bit early – once the rainy season starts (a few weeks after our visit). apparently there are a lot of flamingos in the lakes that are part of the park. At this time the lakes were almost deserted – no flamingos.
Black and white Colubus monkeys. These guys are very shy and are usually well hidden in the trees. We were amazed that Victor could spot these guys fifty feet off the trail hidden in the bush while driving down the narrow park road. The bushy tails hanging down are often the only give-away.

Ngurdoto Crater, park of the park.
