Fatehpur Sikri
back in the 1569, the Mughal Emperor Akhbar decreed the entire capital move to this location so that he could honor the Sufi holy man Salim Chisti whom, he believed, could help heal his son. He also built a marvelous palace.
Within a few years, an entire city had been built on this site. Not long after its completion in 1585, the capital moved back to Agra and the site was abandoned. The city is long gone, but much of the palace still remains. Lie so many other historical sites in India, this is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
