Around Jerusalem

Around Jerusalem…

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Courtyard and entrance to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Note the ladder on one of the upper windows. The story goes that the various sects control different parts of the church and jealously guard all rights to make changes. Someone from one sect supposedly put that ladder without permission there almost two centuries ago and the disputes have supposedly not let them move it since then.

This slab of marble is supposedly the location where Jesus’ body was prepared for burial.

The Old City

The old city is a maze of covered passageways lined with shops selling everything from handicrafts, food and spices to tacky tourist souvenirs.

The rest of the city outside the walls of the Old City still has some very modern mixed in with the old.
